Hey Everyone Today I am brushing up on my newsletter workflow to include a little discount on my printshop and introduce myself and my creative journey. As I was writing and then checking the post in Grammarly (anyone else uses this? It saved my butt so much for writing!) I realised it's a post I'd like to keep somewhere. A story of my journey to this creative place narrowed down into a few paragraphs.
I just created a Substack post saying Iām taking a slow August to play and paint again instead of working for clients and feeling like Iām always one step away from finding joy in creating. And then I found your post, really encouraging š
oooh this makes me so happy - look at you ! I hope you are so so so so proud of what you have achieved. Your work is just beautiful (I can't even dream of creating art right now - but one day I will again! )
Hi Emma! My name is Debbie and I just joined your Patreon. I had heard so much about you from Sandiās YouTube channel. I have followed her since the pandemic. I canāt wait to āmeet youā and all the others and just connect with other artists on this wonderfully (insert your favorite adjective here) creative journey!!
I'm an artist who is most definitely floundering at the 'very bottom' of their creative and business journey, and so it was immensely encouraging and warming to stumble across this post, Emma. The struggle to find one's creative voice/calling/style, whatever it's named, is hard enough without the extra anxiety of wondering if Anyone, Anywhere will resonate with that voice in return. I love the dedication you made to your sketchbook practice; to really truly listen to what makes you happy, and to follow that happiness - social media algorithms be damned. Thank you.
Thank you so much for always talking so openly about the creative journey that you've been taking over the last 5 years, it's been so wonderful to follow along! I resonate a little now with where you were years ago - I haven't felt motivated to be creative for a long time but I also think about creating art literally every single day. Tomorrow's my 30th birthday which is making me want to reflect on a lot of things and I feel like this newsletter has arrived at the perfect time for me! So thank you for giving this stranger a little kick in the bum. I really look forward to seeing what you end up creating next! You're a constant inspiration :)
Itās so good to be reminded of your journey Emma! itās incredibly inspiring to see how far you have grown , and how your dedication to your practice has paid off!
Thank you so much for being vulnerable and sharing your story Emma! You are so incredibly brave and I really appreciate and admire you. I think Iāve had a similar few years, deffo reaching new lows throughout the pandemic and just starting to feel a bit more like my old self now. Observational drawing and your Patreon and Draw Brighton have really been helping. I hope I can look back on this time and see I didnāt give up. Your a total inspiration! Thank you for modelling being true to your self and your work š
I knew a little bit of your journey from the Goodship podcast and more recently from your patreon, but I can never get bored to read about it, truly inspiring Emma ā¤ļø hope your journey continues full of drawings (with all of them, good ans bad)!
I really love the idea of taking six weeks (or however long) to focus solely on observational drawing to see what happens. Allowing more time to see where something could lead is the reminder I needed today.
Iāve listened to your inspirational story on the Sneaky Art podcast, so I knew some of it. Yet, I still enjoyed reading it all. It is so encouraging!
Emma!!!! This is such a great share!!! I needed to hear this!!! Thank you so much for continuing to inspire me and others!!! Youāre wonderful!!! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
